The Moog Messenger has officially been unveiled: iconic Moog sound and a $799 price tag

May 14, 2025

The Moog Messenger synthesizer was unveiled at Superbooth 25. A teaser in the spirit of the TV series Severance preceded the presentation of the instrument.

According to the company, the Messenger is a compact, performance-ready synthesizer. The instrument will offer Moog's iconic and distinctive sound through the lens of modernity.

The Messenger replaces the Subsequent 25, whose production ceased in mid-March 2025. This monophonic analog synthesizer is equally well suited for beginners and experienced musicians.

According to the description, the synthesizer combines analog warmth with modern functionality, making it useful for performers of all levels. Moog states that the Messenger can be used in studios, at concerts, and in modular environments.

It features two voltage-controlled VCO oscillators that support multiple sound waveforms. These oscillators can synchronize with each other and generate infinite signals based on typical or hybrid sound waveforms. It is noted that combining different waveforms is done by the users of the synthesizer.

Additional features include frequency modulation and a sub-oscillator with various waveforms. According to the manufacturer, the sub-oscillator adds a deep, powerful bass to the signal.

The synthesizer features Moog's classic transistor ladder filter. The company redesigned the filter to take advantage of a unique design combining different stages. Users have access to a four-stage low-pass filter, a two-stage low-pass filter, a high-pass filter, and a band pass filter.

The Messenger features Resonance Bass Compensation technology, which is activated by the RES BASS switch. When activated, it attenuates the power of frequencies in the low bass region at high resonance settings, which allows you to keep bass frequencies within reasonable limits without oversaturating the signal.

According to the website's description, the Moog Messenger also has:

  • A 32-key semi-weighted, full-size keyboard with expression control
  • A "knob-per-function controls" control scheme
  • It has a 64-step step sequencer with parameter recording options
  • A "flexible" arpeggiator with multiple pattern generation modes and rhythmic programming functions
  • It has two ADSR envelopes with looping capability, flexible velocity parameter control, and multi-triggering support
  • There are two LFOs: one with a variable waveform and sync support and the other with a triangular waveform linked to a modulation wheel, which greatly expands modulation capabilities
  • There are six analog voltage-controlled CV patch points, an external audio input for filters, and inputs for expression and sustaining pedals
  • It has MIDI In/Out ports on 5-pin DIN and USB-C connectors for integration with workstations, modular systems, and other equipment
  • 256 presets

Joey Richardson, president of Moog Music, noted that the Messenger is the company's first major instrument since joining inMusic in the summer of 2023. The synthesizer is designed for musicians and producers interested in a compact, powerful mono synthesizer with the famous Moog sound enhanced by modern features and user-friendly controls.

Sales of the Moog Messenger will begin on June 2, 2025. The synthesizer will have a recommended price of $799. More details about the instrument are available on the official Moog website.
