Moog Messenger Teaser - New Analog Monophonic Synthesizer

May 8, 2025

Moog teases the new Messenger synthesizer with a video in the spirit of the Severance series. Apparently it's a 32-key subtractive mono synthesizer.

The presentation of the new Moog Messenger synthesizer was announced in a teaser. The first demonstration of the instrument will take place at Superbooth 25, which will be held on May 8 in Berlin.

The teaser released by the company is clearly inspired by the TV series Severance. The clip shows workers setting up microphones in a forest. The image then changes to show numerous office clerks, one of whom is playing the Moog Messenger.

The caption below the video says that the company is preparing a new way to communicate. According to the available description, the Messenger is "a carrier of universal language, a catalyst for human connection, a machine for deeper meaning". Other specifications promise: a device that brings ideas to life and allows for experimentation.

Whether the model will be a replacement for the discontinued Subsequent 25 is not specified. Rumor has it that Messenger will be a compact subtractive monosynthesizer.

The Moog Messenger is claimed to feature 37 full-size weighted keys with aftertouch, velocity-sensitive keys, and two voltage-controlled oscillators with continuously variable waveforms (triangular, sawtooth, and square with adjustable pulse width). The instrument also features a hybrid wave filter and a sub oscillator with variable waveforms (triangle to square with adjustable pulse width).

There is also an improved (for this model) voltage controlled filter and a multi-mode ladder circuit that provides a four-pole low-pass filter, a two-pole low-pass filter, a band-pass filter and a high-pass filter. It should be noted that there is also a resonant bass compensation parameter that allows bass to be maintained at high resonance settings with noise reduction and no loss of bass. It's worth noting that there's a TRS (6.3 mm) line output for switching, a TRS (6.3 mm) output for stereo headphones, six (3.5 mm) CV connection points, TRS (6.3 mm) inputs for expression and sustain pedals, a TRS (6.3 mm) output for the filter, and MIDI I/O via a five-pin DIN and USB-C port.

Other product features include Keyboard Tracking; frequency modulation via a second oscillator and Feedback/External; two loopable ADSR envelopes with Loop function; LFO 1 with four selectable waveforms (triangle, sawtooth, ramp, square) and four Modulation Targets; LFO 2 with a triangle waveform for modulating parameters such as Pitch, Cutoff and Amplifier; 256 built-in presets; 64-step sequencer/arpeggiator with multiple pattern modes.

The Moog Messenger will be available for purchase for about $800. A more detailed description of all the synthesizer's features is already available on the official website.
