Universal Audio celebrated the end of 2025 by giving away ten plug-ins throughout December. As part of the promotion, users could download compressors, amplifiers, and other effects from the company, some of which had been given away the previous year.
To celebrate the start of the new year, the Universal Audio is offering a free download of the UA 610 Tube Preamp & EQ Collection. The set includes two plug-ins based on the Universal Audio 610-A and 610-B preamp and equalizer. It should be noted that these developments use accurate software emulations of tube circuits, transformers, and other components.
The UA 610-A is a replica of the UA 610 console preamp created by Universal Audio founder Bill Putnam Sr. in 1960. Many musicians used the device, including Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, and The Beach Boys. The UA 610-B, in turn, is based on the 2-610 Dual Channel Tube Preamplifier.
According to Universal Audio, the plug-ins emulate the tube saturation of the original devices' input and output circuits. Users have access to a wide range of sounds and precise control over the processed frequency ranges. According to the developers, the UA 610 Tube Preamp & EQ Collection provides the same warmth and vintage sound that shaped generations of classic recordings. These effects are ideal for processing guitars, keyboards, drums, and vocals, which gain additional presence and volume.
Initially, both plugins were only available to users of Universal Audio Apollo audio interfaces. Now, however, the effects are also distributed as native products. The plug-ins are compatible with all modern digital audio workstations (DAWs) and operating systems, and DSP versions for Apollo interfaces are included in the package.
To download the plugins, register on the Universal Audio website and visit the product page. There, click the "Get My Plugin" button and answer three simple questions to link the effects to your account. The plugins can be downloaded via the UA Connect launcher.
Native versions of the Universal Audio UA 610 Tube Preamp & EQ Collection plugins are available in VST3, AU, and AAX formats for computers running Windows 10 or later and macOS 11 or later. While Universal Audio hardware is not required to use the effects, the developers note that the DSP versions and Apollo cards further enhance the capabilities of the preamps.
