The Soundtoys SpaceBlender reverb can be downloaded for free until May 22nd

May 5, 2025

The developers revealed the release of the new Soundtoys SpaceBlender reverb on their official website. According to the company, the instrument is "an incredible space creation machine".

SpaceBlender is positioned as an experimental reverb inspired by classic tape looping techniques. The plug-in is based on a proprietary space generation algorithm and does not use convolutions or delay chains, according to the company.

The developers believe the plug-in is more than just another reverb on the market. The creators designed it as a sound design tool that allows you to create incredible spaces and effects that don't exist in the real world.

The plug-in interface is built around an interactive visualizer in the center of the window. The screen displays the incoming signal and its reflections, and allows you to precisely draw the reflection curve by moving the mouse cursor. Note that movements along the X-axis control the shape of the envelope (shown in purple on the graph), while movements along the Y-axis control the intensity of the reflections themselves (shown in blue on the graph).

In addition, there are options for setting the duration of the reflections (from 100 ms to one minute) and synchronizing them to the tempo of the project in the DAW. The plug-in is also equipped with a WARP button that modulates the height and speed of the reverb. According to the developers, in addition to setting the duration of the effect, the plug-in adds softness to the sound in the spirit of classic tape treatments.

SpaceBlender has three additional controls for advanced customization of the effect:

  1. Color - controls the timbral characteristics of the signal, allowing you to change them over time. For example, reflections can sound brighter at first and then more "muddy", and vice versa.
  2. Texture - controls the density of the reverb. The developers describe the effect of this control as adding various sound-absorbing elements to the room.
  3. Mod - controls the "lush chorus-like" modulation effect.

Users can commit the created sets of settings to prevent accidental changes. The plug-in comes with a collection of presets that demonstrate how the effect works.

As part of the promotion of the new product, Soundtoys has made SpaceBlender temporarily free. Until May 22, 2025, the reverb can be downloaded for free by visiting the product page on the developers' website, clicking the GET IT FREE button, and then subscribing to the newsletter.

Instructions on how to register and get the effect will be sent to the specified e-mail. After May 22, the plugin will cost $99. If you don't buy a plug-in license in time, there's only one thing to do: download Valhalla Supermassive, whose possibilities for experimental sound modification are virtually endless.

Soundtoys SpaceBlender is available in VST/VST3, AU and AAX formats. The reverb is compatible with Windows 10 and later, MacOS 10.14 and later. More details about the effect can be found on the official Soundtoys website.
