Novation Bass Station II Swifty Edition Release - limited edition synthesizer

May 12, 2025

During Superbooth 25, the release of the limited-edition Novation Bass Station II Swifty Edition synthesizer was announced. The instrument was created in collaboration with the popular British graphic designer, Ian "Swifty" Swift. The honored veteran received over 60 new patches from Legowelt and other musicians. Read more about it below.

The original Bass Station was released in 1993, and the Novation Bass Station II evolved from its design when it went on sale in 2013. This analog monophonic synthesizer is widely used in pop, house, funk, and other musical styles and remains in demand 12 years after its release.

Ian Swifty worked for publications such as The Face and Straight No Chaser in the '80s and '90s, as well as labels like Mo'Wax and Talkin' Loud. He developed a visual style that complements the unique sound of the '90s. In addition to Swifty's signature typography, the instrument boasts 60 new presets from Dutch techno composer Legowelt, alt-pop duo Pecq, and jazz/electronic fusion singer Maria Chiara Argiro. Otherwise, the synthesizer is identical to the original Bass Station II, featuring an AFX mode and micro tuning.

The limited-edition Swifty Edition is the instrument's second unusual release. In 2019, Novation collaborated with Aphex Twin to release the AFX Station, a special version of the Bass Station II featuring a different design and preset set.
