Beyerdynamic is releasing an updated version of its popular full-size headphones, extending the PRO X series. The new model is designed for mixing and editing audio content. Meet the Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO X open-back studio headphones!
The new 48-ohm model reportedly features STELLAR.45 drivers, interchangeable velour ear cushions and headband with memory foam padding, and a detachable mini-XLR to 3.5-mm cable with a 6.3-mm adapter.
The Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO X will be available for around $200. More information about the headphones is available on the official Beyerdynamic website.
We plan to write an in-depth review of this headphone model in the future. In the meantime, you can read our reviews of the following headphones from the PRO X line: The Beyerdynamic DT 700 PRO X, the DT 900 PRO X, and the DT 770 PRO X Limited Edition. We'd like to do a sound comparison of two headphone models: The new DT 990 PRO X vs the DT 900 PRO X. They are both open-back and have the same STELLAR.45 drivers, so the differences in sound will be minimal (at least we think so). But here's what the manufacturer says about the difference:
The DT 990 PRO X delivers the familiar sound signature of the DT 990 PRO (80 ohms) with emphasized highs and outstanding spatiality – ideal for revealing acoustic flaws during production. The DT 900 PRO X, on the other hand, offers an impressively linear and precise representation of the entire frequency spectrum, making it particularly suitable for mixing, mastering, and editing.
The designs also differ: The DT 990 PRO X adopts the classic studio look of the original model, while the DT 900 PRO X features a distinct, modern appearance.
Another difference lies in the included accessories: The DT 900 PRO X comes with two detachable straight cables (1.8 m and 3 m). The DT 990 PRO X includes a single detachable 3-meter cable. All cables feature a lockable mini-XLR connector for secure use in the studio.
