Swedish musical instrument designer Love Hultén unveiled a synthesizer project based on the retro Atari 2600 console. The device was created for Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor.
According to a post on Hultén's Instagram, the synthesizer consists of several modules combined in an Atari 2600 case. An Analogue Solutions Ample synthesizer generates sound. The synthesis module is complemented by a Zen Delay from Erica Synths and Ninja Tune, as well as an Industrialectric RM-1N reverb pedal.
The components of the Atari 2600 itself have also been preserved in the case. The device has a small display for outputting information and a cartridge installation compartment. The console can be operated with a standard joystick built into a special area next to the keyboard.
Hulten does not specify the cost of the instrument. However, the project is estimated to cost around $4,000 based on the standard costs of the Analogue Solutions Ample ($2,599), the Erica Synths Ninja Tune Zen Delay ($585), and other components.
