The SSL 4000 G+ console that belonged to Dr. Dre was sold at The Realist auction. The device sold for $165,000.
The 16-channel section of the console was auctioned off at the end of July 2025. It was used for several decades in Room B at Record One Studios in Los Angeles, California.
According to the auction listing, Dr. Dre used the console to record most of his own tracks as well as compositions by other artists. The famous producer used it to record Eminem, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Kendrick Lamar, Gwen Stefani, and many other musicians at various times.
Later, the console became the property of Che Pope, who also used it to record music. However, the device was idle most of the time. The reason the console was put up for sale is unclear.
Before the auction began, representatives of the auction house inspected the console and confirmed that it was in perfect condition externally. However, the trading platform's owners noted that they could not assess its technical condition because the device had not been used since leaving Record One Studios.
Bidding started at $200 and continued for a few days. Ultimately, the studio console sold for $165,000 to Ryan Zurrer. For that price, he received the 16-channel section of the console, a rack for it, and a power adapter.
The new owner called the SSL 4000 G+ mixing console "a piece of music history" and promised not to hide it from prying eyes. Some journalists speculated that Zurrer would rent the console to museums.
