Sony has announced the release of its flagship shotgun microphone model, the Sony ECM-778, designed for television and film professionals.
It comes in an aluminum body with XLR connector and boasts a clean HF, as well as crisp MF and LF.The microphone has a switchable low-pass filter and a supercardioid pattern for focused, natural broadcasting. This effectively suppresses unwanted ambient noise while maintaining an overall natural response. With a compact size of only 17.6 cm, the ECM-778 can easily attach to a boom or camera without obstructing the view. Two types of windproofs are included with the microphone: foam and fur.
