The Roland Aerophone Brisa is an electro wind instrument that imitates the flute and features more than 100 samples. According to the company, playing the instrument is identical to playing the flute. This digital wind instrument has an incredible range of features.

Digital wind instruments are highly specialized products that imitate real wind instruments. These devices are essentially MIDI controllers that trigger commands with an incoming stream of air.

Most digital wind instruments are based on oboes and clarinets; the models imitate the appearance and performance principles of these instruments. With the release of the Brisa, Roland is attempting to expand the range of inspiration by creating an electronic flute, a product that no other company on the market offers.

The Roland Aerophone Brisa replicates the traditional flute in terms of design, keys, and playing principles. The electronic flute has 100 tones stored in its memory and can sound like a concert flute, bass flute, jazz flute, piccolo, pan flute, shakuhachi, or syrinx.

Additionally, the sound collection includes string instruments, synthesizers, and percussion. According to the company, the timbre library can “significantly expand the performance capabilities of musicians.”

One of Brisa's features is its several key layouts, which change the instrument's controls. These layouts depend on the selected timbre, but musicians can lock the controls to their preferred option.

A special mouthpiece with two independent holes was developed for the device. This allows musicians to quickly change the pitch of the sounds produced by raising or lowering the signal by an octave.

The instrument has a wide range of settings that expand its expressive capabilities. For instance, it can layer sounds and generate infinite signals. Built-in position sensors allow musicians to use vibrato, pitch bend, and other sound extraction techniques during performances.

The Brisa has a built-in speaker, a headphone jack, and an output for an external audio system. The electric flute can be connected to a computer via a USB-C connector. Additionally, the device has a Bluetooth module with full support for the Bluetooth MIDI standard for controlling external devices.

The company noted that apps for iOS and iPadOS smartphones and tablets will be available for the instrument in the near future. These apps will allow users to change settings, manage their preset collection, and add new sounds via the Roland Cloud service.
