On their official website, the developers announced the release of a free version of the Native Instruments Massive X synthesizer, Massive X Player. This version allows users to work with presets and patches from the full version of the instrument.
The Massive X Player was released alongside a major update to the synthesizer that introduced a new software platform and various workflow improvements. The Player version provides access to sounds created in Massive X without requiring you to "look under the hood" or work with the full synthesizer.
It offers a set of basic banks with presets and is compatible with third-party preset collections. The product comes with bass, lead, pad, and key sounds, as well as other patches out of the box. Users can modify the sound of the presets using eight parameters that vary from patch to patch.
The logic behind the Massive X Player is identical to that of the Arturia Analog Lab library — the plugin offers ready-made patches and presets with minimal customization options, eliminating the need to purchase full versions of virtual instruments. According to Native Instruments: Massive X Player’s streamlined interface is built for fun and flow. Navigate, tweak, and modulate with ease – everything feels intuitive, responsive, and designed to keep your ideas moving.
In addition to its sound collection, the Native Instruments Massive X Player offers several additional features. For example, users have access to a morpher that can combine several presets in any proportion. The synthesizer also has an Animator feature that applies modulations to the signal.
According to the developers, morphing and modulation can be used together or separately. Additionally, the plugin allows you to synchronize these functions with the tempo and other project parameters. Massive X Player also includes a randomizer that sets parameters at random.
Note that patches created in Player can be transferred to the full version of Massive X for a more in-depth configuration. Conversely, patches created in the synthesizer itself can be used in the free version of the instrument if the corresponding sound banks are available.
Massive X Player is available for free as part of the Native Instruments Komplete Start music software starter kit, which includes iZotope products and other software. Owners of the full synthesizer version can download the Player edition in addition to the main instrument for a "faster workflow with patches."
The Native Instruments Massive X Player is available in VST3, AU, and AAX formats. The plugin is compatible with Windows 10 and later, as well as macOS 11 and later (Intel/Apple) operating systems. For more details and to download Massive X Player, visit the official Native Instruments website.
