Lossless music has arrived on Spotify, but not everywhere and not for everyone

September 16, 2025

Spotify representatives announced the arrival of lossless music on the platform. The Verge confirmed the expansion of the service's capabilities.

According to the available information, the maximum music quality on Spotify for the lossless format is 24 bits/44.1 kHz. For comparison, Apple Music provides uncompressed audio with 24-bit/192-kHz characteristics.

Despite the announcement, it should be noted that the feature will not be available to all users immediately. The platform is rolling out the update gradually and states that full access to the feature will be available to all listeners within the next two months. Users will receive a notification in the app when lossless music becomes available for their account.

It took Spotify about eight years to implement uncompressed music. Rumors about this first appeared in 2017, but it was not officially announced until much later. Initially, representatives of the service promised that lossless quality would be available to all listeners in 2021, but the plans were later changed.
