IKEA has combined wireless speakers with lamps and other household items

November 29, 2025

IKEA unveiled its KULGLASS and SOLSKYDD lamp speakers in its updated product catalog. Designed by Tekla Evelina Severin (Teklan), the devices combine wireless speakers with everyday household items.

According to IKEA, the idea behind these models is to transform technology into a decorative element. IKEA says that such devices are purchased not only for their sound quality, but also for how they look in a room.

The KULGLASS line consists of lamp speakers in a familiar shape. According to the designer's concept, the models resemble ice cream scoops. Instead of a cold design, the designer opted for soft lines and bright yet balanced color combinations.

The KULGLASS speakers should blend in with your interior decor, whether that's next to books, a vase, or a poster on the wall. They shouldn't be just another gray plastic box that you want to hide away.

The speakers are equipped with a 3.5-inch low-frequency driver and a 1-inch tweeter. The declared power is 82.6 dB.

The SOLKSKYDD series, in turn, is designed for more extensive integration into the interior. These devices are speakers in round, flat cases with intricate patterns.

The line includes three models that can be mounted on the wall; two of these models can also be placed on various surfaces. The speakers can work in multi-speaker mode, allowing you to set up a network of speakers throughout your apartment.

The largest SOLSKYDD model is covered with a textured, terracotta-colored panel. The designer says she was inspired by satellite dishes for televisions when developing its appearance.

IKEA emphasizes that they want to design appliances that people will want to display rather than hide away. The KULGLASS and SOLSKYDD models exemplify how appliances have evolved from purely functional objects to become part of the visual landscape of the home.

"Home electronics are often seen as purely functional items that people would rather hide. We want to change that. Over the past few years, we have learned a lot about developing high-quality audio products and how people want to integrate them into their homes," said Sara Ottosson, a product designer at IKEA. "We treat speakers with the same attention as the rest of the interior so they influence the room's atmosphere and character with more than just sound."

These speakers can be placed in the living room, bedroom, or study. They serve as colorful accents while providing adequate sound coverage.

In terms of sound, the models have slightly different specifications:

  • The SOLSKYDD 8" has a 2.5-inch diameter speaker, a power output of up to 80.5 dB, and a battery life of up to 25 hours.
  • The SOLSKYDD 11" has a 4-inch low-frequency speaker and a 1-inch tweeter. It has a power output of up to 83.6 dB and is mains powered.
  • The SOLSKYDD 18" has two 4-inch low-frequency speakers and a 1-inch tweeter. It has a power output of up to 93.6 dB and is mains powered.

The price is in line with that of a lifestyle gadget rather than an audiophile toy. The estimated cost ranges from $79.99 to $139.99 depending on the model. The devices will be available for purchase in the furniture company's retail stores starting in December 2025.
