In an official press release, Gibson announced the launch of its line of children's electric guitars. This series is being created in collaboration Gibson X Loog Guitars, a company that specializes in producing musical instruments for children.
The joint series by Loog Guitars and Gibson offers classic designs, including smaller versions of the Les Paul and SG, as well as other instruments from the American manufacturer. The guitars are intended for children aged three and up.
According to Loog Guitars, children's instruments are not created for fun or additional profit. The company strives to spark children's interest in playing the guitar and in music in general.
The brand acknowledges that full-size guitars are often too heavy, which can discourage children from learning to play. However, this is not the case with the smaller versions. Loog Guitars are lighter and easier for beginners to learn on. Young guitarists are offered fewer strings, smaller frets, and a more comfortable body shape.
This collaboration is not the company's first venture. Loog Guitars previously launched a line of Fender children's guitars, including smaller versions of the Telecaster, Stratocaster, and Jaguar models.
Children's instruments are more accessible to children with small, yet constantly growing, hands. At the same time, these instruments retain all the important elements of full-size guitars, including the bridge, tuning pegs, pickups, and fingerboards.
Three-string guitars involve the use of simplified chords limited to three notes. According to Loog Guitars, these forms are easier to remember and play. The instrument comes with a chord reference guide and a companion app for learning triads, melodies, and popular songs. The latter include adapted versions of songs by Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, The Beatles, and other artists.
In terms of technical characteristics, the body of Gibson x Loog Guitars instruments is made of solid poplar, and the neck is made of Canadian maple. The instruments have a scale length of 20.6 inches and a neck length of 19 frets.
The instruments are tuned to E, C, G. The guitars are fitted with a set of 11-gauge strings.
Gibson children's guitars cost $229. More details about the instruments can be found on the official Loog Guitars website.
