On their official website, the developers announced the release of a new update version of the DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) - Bitwig Studio 6! This update adds new automation features, extensive interface customization options, and other useful functions.
According to the developers, the sixth version of the workstation will undergo multiple technical improvements and enhancements to existing features. They strive to strike a balance between ease of use and creative possibilities by carefully refining the music software's functionality.
Bitwig Studio 6 will have expanded automation options, improved tonality management, and a modified interface. The developers note that the new interface features will allow for more flexible customization of the DAW's appearance and window layout, enabling users to adapt the workstation to their preferences.
The developers cite the expanded automation options as the release's main change. They believe that traditional approaches to automation are boring and monotonous and that musicians only use them at the last moment for fine-tuning. Conversely, the developers want to make automation another creative tool in the musician's arsenal, which dictates all the implemented changes.
For instance, the workstation can now generate random parameter values with the Spread function and lock specified automation settings with the Hold option. Adding automation to clips instantly changes workspaces, allowing them to be modified, looped, and processed like regular audio files or MIDI regions. According to the developers, these changes make working with automation much easier, clearer, and more efficient.
Clips have aliases that simplify the management of patterns and projects. Rather than creating duplicate clips, you can use an alias to automatically insert the clip into the desired location in the project, with the option to apply unique settings.
According to the creators, aliases reduce the number of files in a project and make navigating complex projects with a large number of repetitions easier and more convenient. At the same time, users can opt out of working with aliases at any time.
The alias feature is linked to new tonality settings. In particular, the workstation automatically adjusts notes to the selected scale, which is useful when tonalities change within a single composition.
The Bitwig Studio 6 interface has undergone various changes and now offers more customization options. Users now have access to an improved clip preview tool, a Spray tool, more convenient layer options, and other changes. The developers have also prioritized security; projects created in older versions of the program are automatically updated to the current settings.
Bitwig Studio 6 new update is currently available for download on the software's official website. The workstation is currently in beta, and all registered DAW users can try it out. More details about the update are available on the DAW's website. The release date for the stable version of Bitwig Studio 6 has not been specified, although some sources claim that the full release is planned for fall 2025.
