Beyerdynamic offers a free HEADPHONE LAB plug-in that is designed to transfer the professional sound and spatial environment from monitors to headphones.
The product supports the following plugin formats on macOS and Windows: VST3, AU, and AAX. The plug-in emulates the sound transmission of studio monitors by combining crossfeed processing with technology that considers frequency-dependent time and level differences between the two ears. This method is noted to provide a more natural soundstage with improved depth and localization compared to traditional headphone monitoring.
The new product features calibration profiles for each supported Beyerdynamic headphone model, including a standard profile for all DT series studio headphones and a factory profile based on production measurements of the user's specific unit. Additional controls for precise sound adjustment include adjusting the distance between the ears and the circumference of the head. There is also a choice of virtual speaker angles (40°, 60°, or 80°) and an optional room simulation feature to maintain stable reference sound transmission when working in different conditions.
